Author and investigative journalist Eileen Markey will discuss her book “A Radical Faith: The Assassination of Sister Maura.”

“A Radical Faith” follows the life of Sister Maura Clarke, an American who was serving as a missionary in El Salvador when she was brutally killed, along with three fellow missionaries, in 1980. Through interviews, archival research and reporting in Central America, Markey follows how religious beliefs and political convictions merged for Clarke, a once-timid young woman who grew to become a provocative critic of authority and a strong advocate for justice.

Copies of Markey’s book will be available for purchase at the event. Family members of Clarke also will be in attendance.

Markey’s work has appeared in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, New York Magazine and the Village Voice, among other outlets. She also has worked as a producer for WNYC New York Public Radio.
