Officers of the Fredericktown Police Department recently participated in Use of Force Refresher Training.
After reviewing current use of force case law and practicing tactics, Officers were then presented with real world, full-speed scenarios where they had to make “split second decisions” on, when the use of force was necessary, justified and what is appropriate use of force to utilize in resolving the situation.
In the scenarios, the Officers were provided information on what type of call they were responding to, very similar to information that they would receive by radio from 911 dispatchers. The Officers were then instructed to evaluate and respond appropriately to any form of aggression that they may encounter
At the completion of the scenarios, each officer was debriefed and asked to articulate how they reached their decision on why they did, or did not use force in the respective scenarios.
