Knox County Health department closed Friday; then re-opening for reception, open house

The Knox County Health Department will celebrate its recent national accreditation with
a reception and open house on Friday from 3 – 5 p.m. The reception is open to the public
and will include the unveiling of the accreditation plaque at 3:30 p.m.
Additionally, there will be tours of the building, an accreditation scavenger hunt and
refreshments.
Prior to the reception and open house, the health department will be closed from noon to
2 p.m. on Friday for training and staff development. No services will be available at this
time. The agency will re-open at 2 p.m., followed by the reception and open house at 3
p.m.
The health department was recently recognized as a national accredited health
department by the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB).The designation is the
culmination of a three-year, multi-faceted, peer review assessment process to ensure the
agency meets or exceeds a set of quality standards and measures for public health.
Less than 200 of the nation’s 3,000 public health departments have achieved national
accreditation. The Knox County Health Department is one of just 24 local health
departments in Ohio to be accredited. While it is not a requirement nationally, all 114
health departments in Ohio are mandated to be accredited by 2020. Once a health
department is accredited, it will go through a similar process every five years to maintain
the designation.
