Proposed City Charter Fails in Mount Vernon

The proposed City Charter in Mount Vernon failed nearly 2 to 1 on Tuesday Night. Mount Vernon City Council President Bruce Hawkins said he thinks that the study commission for a charter, which failed Tuesday Night, would have been a good idea next year but he says he respects the votes of the citizens and he says the people have spoken.

Hawkins says it will probably be a while before council thinks about a Charter Government again.
