Ariel Foundation Park in Mount Vernon will host another controlled goose hunt on Wednesday February first from sunrise to noon. The first of four hunts was held this past Saturday, January 28th and Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Mavis said that there are 8 people hunting each hunt and three is the limit that any one hunter can kill in a hunting day.
Mavis said the first hunt was a success as about 20 geese were killed. The next three hunts are scheduled for February 1st, February 4th and February 11th. The eight people hunting are randomly drawn for each date.
Mavis said other ways to control the bird population at the Park that the city will use include decoys, Mavis says the goal is not to eradicate the geese but to simply control how many are at the Park.
