REGISTRATION FOR MVNUNITED YOUTH SPORTS NOW UNDERWAY

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – If you may be searching for a great way to get your children outside and active, look no farther than the newly launched MVNUnited Youth Sports program.

Registration is now underway for the programs’ first sport, soccer! REGISTER

The goal of MVNUnited Youth Soccer is to provide a fun, skill-development focused league where character, comradery, and competition are key. MVNU Athletics desires to positively affect the young athletes spiritually, socially, and athletically. With the use of the All Out Soccer curriculum, a Christian and family-oriented approach will be taken to teach the sport effectively.

The program will be coordinated by MVNU Men’s Club Lacrosse Coach Ryan Farr, who prior to coming to MVNU was employed with the First Friends Church in Canton, Ohio in a role as the Pastor of Sports and Recreation Ministries. Among other accomplishments during his time there, Farr helped to grow the annual participation in the sports, fitness, and dance ministry.

Farr will take some of his experience into this new role with the MVNUnited Youth Sports program, with the desired intent to eventually add new sports in addition to soccer.

“We are extremely excited to open up our backyard to the youth of Mount Vernon and the surrounding area,” says Farr.

“It is truly a pleasure to bring our values as an athletic Department and a University to a youth sports experience that seeks to train in the sport, equip families to learn together and challenge players to grow on an athletic and personal level.”

The initial soccer program will begin by being available for ages 4-12, with a U7 Division (Ages 4-6), a U10 Division (Ages 7-9), and a U13 Division (Ages 10-12). Ages are based on a child’s age by August 30, 2018.

Practices and games will be hosted on the campus of Mount Vernon Nazarene University on the fields off of Edgewood and Cougar Drive. If league play necessitates, games may be played at other venues. An initial skill assessment for all registered participants will take place on Saturday, August 25 for the U10 Division (9 a.m.) and the U13 Division (10:15 a.m.), while there will be no assessment for the U7 Division.

“A part of the MVNUnited initiative is to listen and be attentive to the current needs of surrounding communities,” expressed Director of Athletics Aaron Quinn.

“Some of our local churches have reached out with a desire to create an opportunity for a youth sports experience that incorporates a holistic approach: physical, mental and spiritual.  Our Youth Sports Program(s) have been designed for those very things.”
